Tecplot I/O/Data Format
The Tecplot TecIO library ("TECIO") and preplot executables may be distributed for the purpose of generating data files compatible with Tecplot's software. We provide runtime libraries for a variety of platforms. Or, if you are inclined, you may compile the source yourself and link the library into your own solver.

These files are used to generate Tecplot Focus 2008 and Tecplot 360 2008 [11.2-0] or newer format data. This version supports a shared mesh (e.g., one grid with multiple solution/results files), n-faced polyhedra, and transient datasets. The representation for Time/date data, introduced in Tecplot 2008 release 2 [September 2008], is described in the Data Format Guide (below). There is no format change.

If you're using these libraries, please send a short note to Jennifer Meyer (Strategic Alliances Manager) or Jim Carson (Product Manager). This will let us apprise you of updates and bug fixes, plus we may be able to communicate your work to others.

Library - Current version [December 2007, Tecplot build 11.2-0] supports n-faced polyhedral, sharing grids among multiple time steps, and strands (parts through time). There is no special provision for Time/Date format - please consult the Data Format Guide (below). Using this library, output files will be readable by Tecplot 2008 (December 2007) or newer.
Pre-compiled libraries for various platforms: (Right-click and save the file)
Pre-compiled "preplot" executable (converts Tecplot ASCII to Tecplot block binary). This version is for Tecplot 360/Focus 2008 Release 2 [September 2008]. The major changes are:
  • Removal of zone and mapping limits (up to 2 billion are permitted)
  • Point data is automatically converted block format. (Block format is much more efficient for Tecplot)
Right-click to download the file to your system. On *nix, change it to executable (chmod 755 preplot*). You can optionally rename it to just "preplot"
(The Tecplot 360 2006 release 2 pre-compiled "preplots" are here)
Older versions of the library are available:
  • Tecplot 360 2006 [May 2006, Tecplot build 11.0-4] - Transient support (including strands - parts through time), but no grid sharing. Files generated are readable by Tecplot 360 2006 or newer, Tecplot Focus 2008 or newer.
  • Tecplot 10 Release 6 [March 2005, Tecplot build 10.0-6] - Maximum compatibility at the expense of functionality. No strand support, no grid sharing, no polyhedra. Files generated are readable by Tecplot 10R6 or newer.
